“Reply All” Followups

FollowUpThen Version 3 simplifies how to schedule reminders for others. Simply put:

Unless FollowUpThen is in the “bcc” field, it will reply all on the email string when the reminder becomes due, sending a reminder to everyone.

Bcc remains unchanged. If you put a FollowUpThen address in the ‘bcc’ both the address and the email reminder stay completely hidden from your recipients.

So..how is this different?
Previously, you had to include FollowUpThen in the “cc” field (and only the “cc” field) for the reminder to be sent to those in the “to” field (and only the the “to” field). No other combination would cause followups to be sent to others.

Example 1:
to: joe@acme.com, jane@acme.com, weds@followupthen.com
cc: sally@acme.com
subjet: Hawkins Lab Report

Old Behavior: Nobody receives the reminder (other than sender)
New Behavior: FollowUpThen “replies all” when the reminder becomes due. Everyone gets it.

Example 2:
to: joe@acme.com, jane@acme.com
cc: sally@acme.com, tues@followupthen.com
subjet: Taco Tuesday 🌮

Old Behavior: Joe, Jane and the sender get a reminder. Sally does not get the reminder and is left in the dark, unable to partake in Taco Tuesday, forced to eat that boring salad she brought from home before the avocados turn brown 🤦‍♀️
New Behavior: FollowUpThen “replies all” when the reminder becomes due. Everyone gets it. Everyone enjoys Taco Tuesday. 🌮🙌

Example 3:
to: 3days@followupthen.com
cc: sally@acme.com, jane@acme.com
subjet: Taco Tuesday

Old Behavior: Nobody receives a reminder (other than sender)
New Behavior: FollowUpThen “replies all” when the reminder becomes due. Everyone gets it.

Why the change
Most of the time when people put FollowUpThen in the “to” field, they intended for the reminder to go to everyone. We knew this needed changing for a while. We figured that version 3 was the right time to do it.

Is also simplifies things by mirroring a concept we already now – hitting “reply all” on an email string.

Protect against accidental followup
Note: We have a setting (in both the current and new version of FollowUpThen) to send you an alert if you accidentally schedule a reminder for someone else. This is enabled by default.

External recipient email warning

Opt-In
Note: This requires opting-in on your notification settings page since it may change the behavior of followups that you have already scheduled. Eventually, it will become the default.

We hope this changes makes you and your recipients more productive!
